An 8 hour day trip from Masindi Hotel to the Busingiro Ecotourist Site can be organised that covers the ‘Royal Mile’ in Nyakafunjo, Budongo Forest . The Royal Mile is a forest road lined with spectacular trees where the late Kabalega of Bunyoro Kingdom used to walk during his leisure time. There is also time to visit the Polish Cemetery and Church near the Forestry College at Nyabyeya where Polish priests were buried after the locals rebelled against them and killed them, finally you will get a glimpse of the spectacular and varied birdlife of Budongo Forest. Longer trips involving an overnight stay allow time for primate watching including chimpanzee tracking.

The Busingiro Ecotourist Site is part of the Budongo Forest Ecotourism Project, which was started in 1992 by the Uganda Forest Department and aims to conserve the forest by working closely with the forest edge communities. The project provides local employment; encourages sustainable income generation from the forest for local communities; and runs a Conservation Education Programme.Busingiro is located in the north-west, 40km west of Masindi on the road to Butiaba where the road to Lake Albert and the Rift Valley winds through the forest. It is a mosaic of tropical high forest and grassland. A small lake attracts water birds and it is an ideal site for forest bird watching.

Busingiro Ecotourist Site offers: guided forest walks, primate tracking, including chimpanzees, two bandas, one with a double bed and one with 3 single beds, campsite with borehole water, toilets, hot overhead showers and firewood, picnic shelter, bird and butterfly watching.

A little further away is Murchison Falls National Park. The entrance to the park is less than an hours drive from Masindi Hotel, but it takes a further hour to get to the River Nile crossing where you can take the ferry across the river to go on safari or take a trip up river to Murchison Falls. Leaving the hotel first thing in the morning there is plenty of time to take the boat trip to the Falls , usually seeing plenty of wildlife including hippos and crocodiles and be back at the hotel by late afternoon.
