Start at Masindi Hotel
Begin at Masindi Hotel itself, built in 1923 by the Uganda Railway as a stopover on the road west. The gardens, verandas and the rooms named for the guests who stayed in them are worth the walk before you set off into town.
Masindi Market
Masindi Market is a short walk from the hotel, and the best place to see the town's daily trade in fresh produce, crafts and second-hand goods.
Sir Samuel Baker's Fort
In 1872 Samuel Baker, then Governor-General of Equatoria, built a fort here beside Omukama Kabalega's capital. The arrangement did not hold: fighting broke out that June, and Baker was driven out of Masindi within the year. The site is part of the Sir Samuel and Lady Florence Baker Historical Trail that runs through the town.
Cultural Centre
The Masindi Cultural Centre holds exhibitions on Bunyoro-Kitara history and tradition, with artefacts, music and dance performances from the kingdom.
St. Mary's Cathedral
St. Mary's Cathedral is Masindi's Catholic church, and one of the older buildings in town worth a look on the way through.
