Where Uganda's Safari History Began
Built in 1923 by the Uganda Railway, Masindi Hotel welcomed the travellers, explorers and dreamers of the great safari age on their way to Murchison Falls, Congo and Sudan.
Ernest Hemingway spent the night here after his 1954 plane crashes. Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn passed through in the days of The African Queen. A century on, the verandas, gardens and stories remain.

Three Rooms With Names On Them
Most hotels give you a number. Three of ours are known by who slept in them, and you can ask for any of the three by name when you book.
She stayed here while The African Queen was being filmed. Part of the original block, high ceilings, adjoining bathroom, doors onto the veranda.
Two doors down from Hepburn, in the same 1923 wing, and the same walls that keep the afternoon heat outside.
Two plane crashes in two days near Murchison Falls in January 1954. He read his own obituaries in the papers, then came here to recover. It is still the largest room in the hotel.
