Our Commitment to Responsible, Fair Trade Tourism
Masindi Hotel — Uganda's oldest hotel, welcoming travellers since 1923 — is committed to tourism that is fair, responsible and sustainable. As a National Heritage Site at the gateway to Murchison Falls National Park, we manage the social, cultural, economic and environmental impacts of our business with care and transparency.
Our environment: We operate off-grid on 100% solar power, draw water from our own borehole with automated pumps and leak detection, and manage waste through recycling, composting and on-site biodegradation.
Our people: We employ locally. Nearly all of our permanent team comes from Masindi and the surrounding area, with fair contracts, training and opportunities to grow.
Our community: We source food and services from local farmers and suppliers, and we champion the heritage of Masindi and the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom through our historic tours, art gallery and partnerships.
Our promise: We hold ourselves accountable to Fair Trade Tourism standards and welcome the scrutiny that comes with them — from our guests, our community and independent auditors.
